My 'Aha' moment yesterday was figuring out the key problem with internet security : All companies have a flawed internet network security policy.

What are corporate security planners doing about this? Nothing! Except maybe publishing some 200 pages of security information,putting it in a huge binder and leaving it in their boss's cabin (all for the benefit of termites* who have heard about these huge security policy binders)

** A special breed of termites feeds exclusively on Internet network security policy binders since these are almost never besmirched by human hands.

Recently,I have got some good reports on Yahoo anti spy. Apparently, the folks at yahoo have woken up to the importance of protecting data centers and finally developing some good software ( a break , I guess, from counting all the money they are making!)

After reading blade server reviews, I am convinced that blade servers are another outrageous reinvention of the mainframe wheel with new buzzwords.

If you are responsible for your organization's network security and disk management, you had better be taking care of network security having a intrusion detection strategy in place. Intrusion detection can detect internal and external break-ins to mission critical data.

Are disk backups safe?

Are disk backups safe? Have any of you disk recovery professionals asked that question? I personally think that disk backups are extremely dangerous to organizational security and every disk recovery professional worth his salt needs to watch where he places his disk backups.

Funny computer virus incident

A really funny computer virus incident. One of my pals had a computer disk crash due to his friendly attitude towards viruses- He never bothered to install any antivirus software. When I triumphantly displayed the offending virus files, his wife wondered rather innocently whether it was safe to let the kids into the room.

Okay, I agree, the above anti virus software story is apocryphal,but I just wanted to talk about the gullibility of people as regards disk crash consultants and antivirus software.

Its really true, you can liven up your staid IT job by getting into computer forensics -and assist the law in bringing criminals to justice! Get into computer forensics training and dont let anyone tell you that computers are boring again!

I met another of those strange Fortune 100 clients who had this brilliant (read stupid!) idea of combining data backup services with disaster recovery.
While agreeing with him (as any good consultant does out of respect for the client), I realised that what this guy was saying wasnt altogether stupid.

Being a data center consultant,I am constantly amazed by the stupidity of some Fortune 100 companies. It is so difficult and a real torture to deal with stupid people and some data center operations professional in the Fortune 100 companies are outrageously stupid ideas on data center setups and disk recovery

Guys,please advice your stupid friends (who definitely dont read this blog!) to at least read this basic data center setup information

Business continuity champion and no pay hike?

The Sorbannes-Oxley Act (i could have got the spelling wrong) has been passed- my boss had told me last year that the passing of this act spelt good times for us data center professionals (http://www.data-recovery-reviews.com) , but I havent heard anything from my boss yet :-(
